The American Equity Underwriters, Inc. (AEU), the leading provider of workers’ compensation insurance for waterfront employers and program administrator for American Longshore Mutual Association (ALMA), announces David Widener has been promoted to the role of Managing Director.
In his new role, Widener will work directly with insurance brokers and ALMA members to ensure that AEU’s claims management, loss control and other services meet the company’s high standards of performance.
Widener joined AEU in 2019 as Director of Claims Advisory Services, a role in which he focused on strategy for litigation, mediation, and resolution of longshore claims on behalf of ALMA members, as well as spearheaded AEU’s advocacy for amendments to the Longshore Act. He brought with him nearly two decades of experience in the longshore claims arena, including seven years as a district director with the U.S. Department of Labor.
“David’s extensive knowledge of the intricacies of Longshore Act claims is a tremendous asset to ALMA members and their brokers,” said Adele Hapworth, CEO of AEU. “His unique perspective will be an excellent addition to our already strong team of Managing Directors.”
